Question 5
How did you address the target audience in your Opening Title Sequence?
When making any product at all, it is important that you aim for the correct target audience so that the product will be successful. The target audience will be the group of people that the product is marketed towards and aiming to convince to purchase the product or use it in some way. In a filming situation, a film for instance will be of a specific genre but will aim for a specific target market with the idea. The film will have to be tailored to what is appropriate, visuals wise to show tho the type of audience. For example, you wouldn't make a Horror film with lots of blood and gore for a target audience of children. It is likely the visuals would be too scary for a child, not that they would be appropriate for a child to be watching to begin with. This sort of philosophy was taken into account when we were planning for our own Opening Title Sequence project.
When making our Opening Title Sequence, our main goal in regards to target audience was to aim towards teens. To address this in our Opening Title Sequence we didn't want it to be filled with typical horror jump-scares that most horror rely's on. The younger audience means that we didn't want to go full on gothic like horror, because of this we built to Opening Title Sequence to tell a small story if its own within the 2 minutes it runs. We chose this because we thought we could build up anticipation for what was going on and just what exactly the Supernatural entity was. Telling a small story within the Opening Title Sequence should allow teens to get invested in what is going on straight away rather than keeping them in lengthly suspense till something will potentially happen that is legitimately scary and potentially deter them from the film entirely. We wanted to convey a more subtle story in the beginning rather than a full on stereotypical horror story and visual style.
We ultimately decided not to reveal the Supernatural entity plaguing the main character as to truly capitalise on the fear of never being noticed or seen by anyone, while at the time being tormented by something that you cant quite see. This decision was made to create a sense of mystery in the Opening Title Sequence. The Opening Title Sequence is meant to be placed at the beginning of a film and so we didn't want to reveal everything or the identity of the Supernatural being pursing the main character. The weird events happening towards the end of the Opening Title Sequence help to continue the mysterious vibe we wanted to achieve during the sequence and helps to grip the viewers. Some scenes are shown out of a linear sequence, specifically the parts where you see the main character dead in the corner as he is spinning out of control during the ending portion before the ending of the Opening Title Sequence.

Our characters were casted and chosen to be appropriate for the teenage audience we were aiming for. The cast was chosen to be of similar age to the target audience so that the audience could find it more easier to relate to the main character than if he was an adult. The costumes was chosen to be ordinary clothing typical for a teenager to wear on an average day, this was chosen to make the characters feel more realistic to the role they were playing and continue to make the characters more relatable to the intended audience.

I believe we have managed to meet the requirements we have set towards achieving our set target market. When we were planning the Opening Title Sequence we decided to set our target audience towards teenagers. We aimed towards teenagers because Horror films are usually aimed for the teenage and adult audience. I believe our Opening Title Sequence was suited towards this audience very well and the mysterious storyline will keep the audience engaged in our Opening Title Sequence.
