Moving Image Inspiration
While researching different things about film projects and what makes them successful, we decided to look into other theatrical Horror films Opening Title Sequences and different Horror aspects and elements. While researching this we were directly inspired by these two examples for different reasons. These two examples are both theatrical Horror films. One Friday the 13th a Slasher Horror film and the other Insidious, a Supernatural Horror film. Both of these films have helped us to create an idea we believe will be different yet engaging for the audience to watch.
When we were in the process of coming up with idea's for our Opening Title Sequence we were very much inspired from the Opening Title Sequence of Nightmare on Elm Street. We were inspired from where the girl is seen running away from something she cannot properly identify or see properly. While Nightmare on Elm Street is a Slasher Horror film, this idea could easily be transferred into a Supernatural Horror. Nightmare on Elm Street also intrigued us with the idea of the entire opening being a dream sequence but having effects outside the dream sequence where she was slashed by Freddy and her clothes were still teared. This concept while potentially hard to do with the scale of our project and availability of time and resources we want to try and work into our own idea in some similar way to try and made it stand out a little from other projects similar to ours.

Another aspect we were inspired from when researching different Opening Title Sequences and even Horror films themselves was a recent horror film franchise 'Insidious'. Insidious specifically the first movie involved the idea a child's soul being stuck in an alternate dimension. The parents cannot see but find out something is keeping him there while trying to take over the child's body for itself.
We was inspired by this film as a whole based on the fact that the child was stuck alone with this unidentifiable Supernatural being where others cannot see or help him. We thought of combining this element with the idea of Nightmare on Elm Street's Opening Title Sequence dream section could be implemented into our Opening Title Sequence to make it different and unusual compared to the many other projects out there. |
