Question 3
What Kind of Distribution Company Might Distribute Your Media Product and Why?
When it comes to our media project we would have to find a distribution company to distribute our media content to customers and viewers around the world. There are many different film distributors out there in the film industry today that could potentially distribute our media content.
20th Century Fox

20th Century Fox is one of the big name distribution companies in the film industry today. There are both advantages and disadvantages to having our media product distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Advantages
Advantages
- 20th Century Fox is a big distributor, this means that there will be no problems with worldwide distribution.
- 20th Century Fox being a big distributor means potential marketing shouldn't be too much of an issue as to have it advertised widespread.
- 20th Century Fox would be able to support DVD/Blu-Ray releases or theatrical releases
- 20th Century Fox distributes some of the most highly anticipated films of the years with the biggest budgets and marketing plans, its possible that our media project would be forgotten or lost in the other content being distributed.
- As 20th Century Fox is such a big distribution company, its possible they would not be interested in a project like ours.
Warner Bros
Warner Bros is a huge American film entertainment and film distributor and is currently one of the major six distribution companies regarding film in America. Warner Bros was founded by 4 family members, Harry Warner, Albert Warner, Sam Warner and Jack L. Warner. Throughout the years Warner Bros has distributed some of the most popular films of their time with films like the Harry Potter franchise, The LEGO branded films (The LEGO Movie) and the DC Comics Cinematic Universe films (Batman Vs Superman). Another American film distribution studio, New Line Cinema merged with Warner Bros

|
Advantages
- Warner Bros is a big film distributor, this means that there will be no problems with Worldwide distribution.
- Warner Bros is such a big company that widespread marketing shouldn't be too much of an issue.
- Warner Bros being a big company means that the DvD's/Blu-Ray's if our project could be easily accessible for the customer.
Disadvantages
- A disadvantage of Warner Bros being our project distributor is that Warner Bros previous track record features many typical blockbuster Hollywood titles in more recent years rather than Horror films.
- Another disadvantage to having Warner Bros as a distributor for our project is that the company may not be interested in a project like ours due to the scope of may of the other projects they usually take handle of to distribute.
SyFy
|
SyFy is an American Satellite Cable television channel and is currently owned by the NBC Universal Cable Entertainment Group. The television channel features shows and films from many genre types from, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Drama and Horror. SyFy features many television shows and movies on their channel with some even being produced themselves. SyFy while also having a television channel also had an official magazine which later became unaffiliated but covers content from SyFy frequently. SyFy is also a website host of a few small multiplayer games.
|
Advantages
- SyFy can distribute our media product onto its channel and maybe an online streaming website or service for people to be able to watch.
- SyFy isn't a huge distribution company like the previous examples and thus would probably be more likely to pick up a media product like ours instead of it being overshadowed by the huge influx of other products that come to those other company examples.
Disadvantages
- SyFy is a television channel, while being able to get our product out there on television and online for people to watch, it is unlikely they would be able to move physical copies let alone produce them.
- Marketing opportunities would be much more limited than if we were to join with a bigger company like Warner Bros or 20th Century Fox.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I think that our media product would be more suited towards either a smaller distribution company or just being placed on air in television. It is very likely that big companies like Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox would dismiss our content in favour for the more big budget pieces produced. I think going for a cable network like SyFy would much more benefit our product as it would be easily accessible to the masses if it was viewed on television and distributed through digital means. Our product would have a much more likely chance to be successful using this method as there would be multiple showings or through streaming services and catch-up programs, this could lead to our product being released as physical copies later down the line if it gains enough of a following. If we were to send our product straight to cinema, it's possible that our project wouldn't be successful and thus could affect the distribution and sales of the copies considerably. Balancing the probabilities and likelihoods of our product being successful and getting a good distribution deal i would personally go with a much smaller distribution company to distribute our product.
Our Own Distribution Company
Our own Distribution Company Video Sequence, Starshine Films is a relatively simple sequence that takes place in a space environment, This space environment helps the watchers to identify with the idea that this media product would be distributed on a wide capacity.
